But, in case you’re behind the times, Halloween is no longer just for children. Many adults will attend Halloween parties or other events that involve dressing up.
If you haven’t given it thought, you should. Getting out and having fun on Halloween can be a great way to be social and meet new people.
And, if you’re a man, what costume you pick could say a lot about you. A good costume can make you appear more confident and attractive. A bad one? Well, it can make you look unattractive. Pick one that makes the ladies think you’re hot. Don’t worry though, we have three tips to pick a perfect costume.
Anyone can go to a Halloween store and buy a costume. It’s also why you’ll see a lot of people dressed in the same outfits. There’s nothing wrong with that, of course. But, if you want to be noticed, you’ll need to pick something that is original. It can be unique, funny, or just generally outrageous. In fact, Halloween is a time when adults can be a little outrageous and get way with it. So, take advantage of that, especially if you’re a more conservative person.
You’d be amazed at how a unique, exciting costume can boost your social success and attractiveness. I’ve seen it happen many times. If you aren’t sure about ideas, you can bounce them off a friend. Also, maybe enlist some help in putting the costume together if you’re not terribly artistic.
Your Costume Should Reflect Your Value
Your Halloween costume will tell others, especially strangers, a lot about you. You want to pick a costume that tells them you’re cool, confident, and successful. Never pick something that is demeaning to you. One example would be a short man being an oompa loompa. Just no.
This means avoiding any outfit that will make you look girly as well. This means not dressing up as a woman either. A real man who is straight shouldn’t do it. Also, if you’re doing a couples costume, don’t pick anything that makes it look like you’re playing a female role or submissive to her, unless it’s an obviously funny joke (like a tall, burly guy being the sub). It may sound sexist, but people (even women), look down on men who appear effeminate.
You can be funny and even a little self-deprecating with your costume. Getting people laughing is always a plus and actually increases your excellence in their eyes! However, don’t choose something that makes them laugh at you rather than with you.
Don’t Be Creepy
Halloween is a time when it’s possible to be really creepy (no surprise here). Darker and edgier themes are celebrated, but the creepy line is still there. Don’t cross it by picking costumes that are too “real.” In other words, don’t embrace themes like rape, racism, sexual or physical abuse, etc. Many people, especially women, have suffered from these issues and they won’t find your costume appealing or cool.
Remember too that the line between creepy and scary is sometimes fine. For example, you can be a creepy clown murderer, but you can’t dress up as John Wayne Gacy. Your costume sends a message about you and you don’t want that message to be you’re weird and dangerous.
People want to get into your Halloween fantasy, even if it’s scary. But, they don’t want to jump into a fantasy with a guy whom they suspect his costume might represent reality!
With these tips, you should have a better idea of how to pick a great costume. Have a safe, popular, and successful Halloween!
