And, it’s not just kids who enjoy dressing up for Halloween. Adults are also getting in on the fun. There are a ton of adult Halloween costume options. And, there are numerous events for adults, ranging from street parties to costume contests.
Chances are you’ll be invited to some type of Halloween event this year and you might need a costume. If you’re not invited, check out your city’s local events and find one. But, if you decide to dress up, don’t just throw on any old costume. Give it some thought!
The Halloween costume a guy picks says a lot about his social value and personality. A man needs to choose a costume that makes him look like an excellent, high value, attractive guy.
This is especially true if you’re going out with the purpose of meeting a woman or going with someone you are dating or want to date. So, with that in mind, we offer our tips for a man to pick a Halloween costume.
I know this sounds a little odd, but it’s important to mention. If you’re going to a place where others are going to be dressed up, then you should wear a costume too. While we recommend being unique, you don’t want to be “that guy” at a costume party who shows up as himself.
Wearing a costume tells others that you are fun. Not wearing a costume can telegraph that you’re uptight. You might think you’re being cool or edgy or different. But, in reality, you’re just showing others that you’re either not creative enough to come up with an idea or you’re boring.
When I taught high school, the teachers who dressed up were, to a person, the cool teachers. Those who didn’t dress up were the uptight ones. And, it only reinforced their uptight image. So, make sure to get into the spirit, wear a costume, and have fun with it.
Make it Masculine
Whatever costume you end up picking, make sure it’s masculine. Lots of guys simply go with the flow in costumes, sometimes letting women make their choices. This is why men end up dressed in dumb couples costumes or other girly outfits.
You don’t have to be a gladiator or MMA fighter, but at least choose an outfit that lets you keep your manhood. This especially means not dressing as a woman. It’s not funny. It’s not going to make a girl like you. Sure you might get a few laughs, but it’s not going to make anyone think you’re an excellent guy worth dating.
You don’t have to pick a stereotypical masculine outfit at all, but at least make sure it’s not too girly or effeminate unless it’s an obvious joke (like you’re a big burly lumberjack type going as a baby).
Choose Powerful Costumes
I personally like to pick costumes associated with power and dominance. These are the traits most admired in men (especially by women). While you don’t have to follow this tip, wearing a costume that gives you some authority actually makes people treat you as more authoritative. It sounds odd, but it’s true.
Some examples of powerful costumes are: boxer, emperor, pimp, superhero, police officer, judge, vampire, and doctor. Anything that represents a position of power and dominance will suffice. However, make sure you can pull off the costume. If you’re three hundred pounds, wearing a tight superman costume isn’t going to make you look dominant and powerful.
You can also get into character with these costumes. For example, if you’re a cop, you can joke about smelling weed and arresting someone. Or, if you’re an emperor, joke that people should submit to you. Don’t actually try to force people to do this! Make it friendly and funny.
You Can’t Go Wrong With Funny
Humor is a very high value trait. With that in mind, you can’t go wrong with a funny costume. Making people laugh with a funny costume will almost always make you look good and they’ll have fun with you. If you can find a uniquely funny costume it’s even better.
Remember to keep your costume masculine even if you go the funny route. Some examples of funny Halloween costumes are: fat suit, redneck, and pimp. If you can get people to laugh and think “that’s so cool” then you’ve chosen the perfect Halloween costume.
But, make sure they are laughing with you and not at you. Making fun of yourself for things like obesity, not having a job, being short, etc. aren’t cool. For example, a tall man going as an oompa looma is funny. A short man going as one is just sad.
So, make sure you pick a Halloween costume that shows others you are excellent and high value. Halloween only comes once a year, so make the most of it. Leave that party or event with even more popularity than when you walked in.
